Fans bathed in a bright, sunny day (for a change) to watch Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy girls and Twinsburg boys win championships at the 14th Poland Invitational. CVCA scored 104 points and Twinsburg scored 120. Record-breaking performance by Mahogany Jones of Rhodes, Nicole Pachol Howland , and Jakob Leon highlighted the 14th Poland Invitational. Jones, a senior from Cleveland Rhodes, continued to set the standard in the midwest with an amazing 11.88 (.6 wind reading) in the 100 meters. She also won the 400 (57.61) and anchored the winning 4 x 200 meter relay 1:45.11. Pachol, a senior at Warren Howland ran a 14.79 in the 110 hurdles and a 44.77, both Poland records. Jones and Pachol shared running MVP honors. Ben Moody of Lakeview continued to be impressive in the 110HH as he turned in a performance of 14.15 (-.8 wind reading). Stuart Edmonds from Twinsburg was a double winner, the 3200 in 9:41.18 and the 1600 in 4:27.97. He also was a member of the 2nd place 4 x 800 meter relay, thus winning the Iron Bulldog award for most points (22) scored in the meet. Jordan Moxley from Maplewood was the girls Iron Bulldog winner for most points racking up 23 points for the day. Ali Tolich of Austintown Fitch and Valarie Hood of Boardman shared girls field events MVP. Jakob Leon of Crestview was another record-breaker going 6' 10" in the high jump. He should be a threat to win the division 3 State title this year. Robert Balzano of Poland continued to impress with another sub-50 second performance winning the 400 meters dash in 49.34. Senior Katie Gillespie, CVCA was the 3200 winner in 11:10.35. Samantha Hamilton won the 1600 in 5:10.66. Poland boys ran a 8:15.44 winning the 4 x 800 meter relay. Dustin Brode of Canfield was the field events MVP winning the shot put with a throw of 57' 6.25" and a third place discus, 156' 9". Toussaint Fitzgerald heading for Michigan to play football won the 100 in 10.86. This one day meet featured 27 girls and 26 boys teams. The meet started at 9:15 am and was completed at 3:45 pm. Many thanks to all of the officials and volunteers, the Poland Bulldog Track Club for another fine meet. |
